ReviewsGadgets and Geek Stuff
I finally got all the parts for his new silent computer on Thursday. Some of you may be curious about what's inside, so here's the list:
  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (E6550)
  • Intel DG33BUC Motherboard
  • 2x1GB Kingston DDR2 800 RAM (Model KVR800D2K2/2GR)
  • Seasonic S12 430W Power Supply
  • Antec P180 Case
  • Zalman CNPS7000B CPU Fan + LGA 775 fan clip adapter
I already had the following: 2 120GB IDE hard drives running off of a RAID PCI card (for secure data), a few 200GB IDE hard drives (for things like video editing and recorded TV), a Hauppauge 150 TV card, and a DVD burner. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, 64 bit version. I'm too lazy to do benchmarks, but it suffices to say it's very fast. As for where I bought the parts, try Newegg.com and Fry's (advertised in store deals). Things I'd like to add eventually The graphics and the hard drives are my bottlenecks right now. So I'd like to get a few SATA hard drives with a lot more space so I can start using Media Center for HDTV. I'd also like to get a fanless video card, like the Radeon HD 2400PRO.

you got an extremely good deal on that CPU and mobo combo. Wish we had invested right then and there. -=wayne the lordly=-

They'll be other

They'll be other opportunities. Maybe. Of course, you could always settle for AMD (it's sad that AMD is so far behind the game that to go with them is settling. I remember when I thought I'd never go Intel again). I think the deal may have been because Intel had just decided to release some new processors that week, and Frys was having AMD is a special.
