As a preliminary matter, this entry will probably be of less-interest to most of our predominately Republican-voting readership. And as a disclaimer, these are my views only, not necessarily Angela’s.
I’m voting in the Democratic primary next month because it’s the only California primary that allows participation by voters registered as independents. So I’ve been doing a lot of studying of the Democratic candidates lately.
I’ve decided that, at least next month, I’ll vote for Barrack Obama. I don’t want to spend a lot of time going into all of my reasoning, but I’ve decided that this is the rare sort of intellectual who should be president, but usually can’t navigate all the muck that is politics well enough to get past the primaries. But by some happy coincidence, he’s managed to gain enough celebrity that other people are out there doing the fighting for him, and he actually has a chance to get past the primaries.
I’ve been reading his books, listening to him at debates. One of the vibes I’m getting from what I’ve read and heard is that he actually “gets it,” especially when it comes to Christianity. And by “it,” I don’t mean all of the less important peripheral issues that people get so caught up on that they lose the big picture. He may in fact be wrong on several of these peripheral issues. But he understands the issues that each of the various classes of Americans face, and how delicately they interplay with each other, so much better than any other candidate I’ve seen.
Well, there’s a lot more to why I'm voting for him, but my main point is, I’d just like to encourage everyone to take a closer look at this guy.
As for how I’d vote in a regular election, well, I usually don’t decide until November. But to leave some sort of suspense, I have voted both Republican and Democratic in past general elections . . . .
