Ashes Ashes

Karl spent a lot of time working this week.  A big client who hadn’t given the firm new work in a while called on the firm to do a rush job to write and file an application before a big demo this week.  His boss claims he asked Karl to handle the matter because they really want to impress the client so that the client will give them more cases in the future.  But Karl wonders if maybe he was just the only attorney who had his docket clear enough at the moment to handle a rush application like this.  At any rate, Karl’s been paying a lot of attention to the application so that the client will be impressed, meaning that he even had to work on Saturday.  (Of course, we're thankful that, unlike most attorneys, Karl only works on Saturday a few times a year).

Karl’s busy schedule notwithstanding, we took full advantage of daylight savings time and Thomas’ new bedtime.  We took Thomas on a bike ride or walk to the park after work almost every day of the week.  By Friday, Thomas just assumed that he should go get his bicycle helmet after dinner.  And, because it’s light when Karl leaves work, Karl he rode his bike into work for the first time this year on Wednesday.  He was a full 50% off his best pace last year.  But a lot of the blame for his physical condition has to go to his ankle, which is only just now feeling good enough to run on (hopefully he can do sports this week).

Angela and Thomas meanwhile did their normal classes and playgroups and singing times.  We taught Thomas about bedtime prayer on Monday night, and he’s been telling us to have prayer every night since.  He’ll usually say the last word of every sentence we say, and then say “Amen” without any prompting.  He gets on his knees and folds his arms, but can’t figure out how to close his eyes without actually bringing his hands up to his face.  Thomas has also been very excited about bubble baths.   And he asks for a kiss from momma whenever daddy gives momma a kiss.  Thomas’s favorite song of the week is “Ring around the rosies.”  He just starts randomly singing “ashes ashes” all the time, and he of course loves to fall down.  He still asks for “Spider” at night night though.

Saturday we celebrated pi day (3.14) with Wayne and Becky and Paela (they’re so nerdy :)).  Angela made an incredible chocolate cheesecake pie, and Becky and Wayne made brownie pie, key lime pie, and pizza pie.  Mmm, yummy.  And Thomas and Paela got into all sorts of mischief while Angela beat Karl thrice in Wii Bowling.

We’re putting in an offer on another house tomorrow.  It’s listed at a great price, so we’re hoping we don’t get outbid.  Keep your fingers crossed.
