Thomas had neither the library nor his class to look forward to this week, but he and Angela still found things to do. Thursday, they went a nice long walk with her visiting teacher. Friday, they went to the first pool party of the year. It was great weather, but maybe the water was a little too cold or maybe Thomas forgot he likes to swim or maybe Thomas was upset about falling in the kiddie pool and getting his face wet. We had missionaries over on Wednesday and Angela cooked North Carolina BBQ pork. They were a quiet pair, but Thomas was entertained, and it was still nice to have them over.
We spent a lot of time house shopping this week. We put in an offer on a place that he had thought we really liked after a first visit, but decided it was just so-so after a second visit. The backyard was way better than anything else we’ve seen in our price range, but the house needs some fixing. To ensure that we’d have enough money leftover to make the house livable, we had to put in an offer that was probably too low, but you never know.
The big event of the week was the campout at Lehi Park Friday night. There were 10+ families there, including Wayne and Becky. It was great to get to know some of the people we go to church with (besides the kid). But oh did Thomas have the time of his life playing with the older kids. He has a favorite (Brooklyn—we used to teach her in the seven-year old class, so perhaps Thomas remembers her from class), but he would go up to any of them and give them a pine cone or needle or glowstick, and then he’d follow them around. He even helped them decorate a small pine tree. He had so much fun that when he heard their voices outside of our tent in the morning he jumped up, ran to the tent door, and did a little anxious dance while saying “play, play!” So yes, he had fun. And there was even a playground for him to play at in the morning while Karl did a service project (some spring cleaning, wood burning, trench digging, brush clearing type stuff).
