The week where things don't work

So nothing seemed to work this week.  Our computer had a major crash, and it took most of the evenings this week to fix it.  Karl’s phone had to be replaced.  We couldn’t figure out how to salvage the sprinkler system in our side yard.  But most importantly, our heater is still broken!  It’s covered by a home warranty, but they still don’t have the part in stock to fix it.  Our inside temperature hovered just above 50 degrees on a couple of nights, and barely hit 61 degrees in the middle of those days.  We bought a space heater to use in the kids room, so they’ve been alright, and we have an electric blanket for our bed.   But poor Angela and the boys have been bundled up well throughout the day.  This weekend, inside temparatures have been more manageable (high of 67 today, overnight low of 60).  It probably helps that we’ve become acclimated to it.  But still, we’ve been going outside in the mid-afternoon to get warm!

Jonah has been up to all sorts of mischief.  He has really started to screech (a happy screech, of course) a lot.  Thomas encourages him, and the two can really give Angela a headache.  He’s virtually weened now, having 1-2 small feedings a day.  He’s starting to eat cheerios and baby crackers and real blueberries and bananas.  He loves to stand up holding on to the table.  He can pull himself up on his knees from the floor.  He can sit up from a laying position.   He’s been found many a time trying to climb up the stairs.  And, most excitingly, he started crawling today.  Not a very competent crawl yet, and he keeps on his elbows instead of hands most of the time.  But it’s been a very exciting week for our growing baby Jonah.

Angela surprised Karl at work with a Valentine’s Day lunch and treat (well, it was February 12th, but still).  She sure knows how to make yummy sweets.  Karl and the boys returned the favor on Saturday morning.  While Angela was out visiting the temple with Jenna, the boys picked up flowers and made a card.  Thomas has been having fun with the idea of Valentine’s Day, making cards for all sorts of people.  He got his first card in the mail on Wednesday, and was so excited he exclaimed “wowee!  Valentine for me?  Thank you mommy.”  Angela pointed out that it wasn’t from her, so Thomas said “Thank you mailman.”  After a good laugh, Angela pointed out that it was actually from Oma and Opa.  I think that’s the most mileage I’ve ever seen anyone get out of a card.

Angela and the boys came to watch Karl play basketball Thursday night.  Thomas seemed sad that he couldn’t shoot the ball out there with daddy, but when Angela asked him about it, he cheerfully observed “I need to grow bigger.”  Thomas also wants to be an olympic skier and figure skater.  He loves watching the Olympics before bed.  He gets a little concerned that they’ll fall, but is happy when they hold hands because that way they “don’t fall.”
