We had a great time in Austin this week. We headed out there after Angela got off work on Monday (Karl had intended to go to his classes, but he had to get some edits done and ended up skipping Tax). We ate at Crown Burger on the way up, parked our car at the airport, went through the new puffing machines at security, and hopped on a pretty short direct flight down to Austin. Karl’s grandparents picked us up (they were kind enough to offer us a place to stay) and immediately offered us buttercream cake, even though it was 11:00 at night. read more »

Age to me means nothing. I can't get old; I'm working. I was old when I was twenty-one and out of work. As long as you're working, you stay young. When I'm in front of an audience, all that love and vitality sweeps over me and I forget my age.

Karl played two ultimate Frisbee games with his intramural team. This first was on Tuesday night during Angela’s photography class, so she was unable to go. His team unfortunately lost 6 to 10. Wednesday night they had to win or they would be out of the tournament. They won 10 to 7. At one point in the game it was 5 to 1, but they let the other team come back. His team will play the same team as Tuesday night in the Finals some time after Thanksgiving. We don’t know why they didn’t just have it this week when the fields were empty. Winter is especially hard when it first starts to dip below freezing at night. After a few weeks when the snow finally accumulates, we sort of get used to it, and then it’s not so bad. But now we’re just awful cold. read more »

"If the concentrated powers of [a] combination are intrusted to a single man, it is a kingly prerogative, inconsistent with our form of government, and should be subject to the strong resistance of the State and national authorities. . . . If we will not endure a king as a political power we should not endure a king over the production, transportation, and sale of any of the necessaries of life."

Monday evening we took Bryan out for ice cream at Subzero. It was fun to create our own ice cream flavors. Angela had Strawberry with Oreos (Bryan the copycat copied it) and Karl had Malt with Reese’s. Tuesday we woke up way early to take Bryan to the airport. We didn’t do much for Halloween. We only had 5 trick-or-treaters (in just 2 groups). Angela dressed up as Elizabeth Bennett to hand out goodies. read more »
