It’s been a busy and fun week for us. Karl did a little work for his firm this week, but also spent a lot of time researching legal issues for family, working on a new website, and running errands (like picking up our crib with Ruston’s help). He also started running a 5k every other day. Angela worked Monday through Thursday, and as usual those days were pretty unremarkable. Except that Karl’s Ultimate Frisbee team lost again on Thursday night—it may be a long season. read more »

Here's a Texas chili done right--no beans! This recipe was derived from a recipe called “Pedernales River Rat” Chili, by Lynn Hejtmancik, which is available at http://chili.org/lynn.html. This recipe can be made spicier (as Karl likes) with more cayenne pepper, or more mild (as Angela likes it) with less.

Karl went to his first Father’s and son’s campout Friday night—but Angela had to tag along because our son is still inside her! But it might as well have been a Father’s and Son’s. Two big groups were doing a Father’s and Son’s campout right next to us (we cracked up when a little boy exclaimed as he pointed to Angela, “But daddy, there’s a girl over there”), plus there were a lot of boy scout groups there. Angela has been working for the same company for the last seven years. She is rather tired of it. She is somewhat an expert in her field, so her company would hate to lose her. They would like her to continue working from home in California after we move to California. What do you all think Angela should do? Is it time to start something new? Should she try math tutoring, photography,...., or should she except this nice offer. Please post your comments. Any job ideas are welcome.

We both did a lot of working this week. Angela had some more frustrations with her training role—her trainee doesn’t appear to be highly motivated to learn. But she takes comfort in knowing that it will all be over soon, at least from a training standpoint. She also told work this week about Karl’s job, and they indicated that they would be interested in working out an arrangement when we’re in California. Karl, meanwhile, turned in 4 patent applications that he’s been working on. read more »

A new chapter of life began for Karl, that chapter we will called Employment (part 2). Karl worked for the firm this last week. He is working on 4 patents that are due next Wednesday, so he will continue to work on it Monday and Tuesday. He will do work for the firm for most of the month, then the next two months will be filled with studying for the bar. read more »

"In the land of ice and snow
Up among the Eskimo
There's a college known as Oogie-wawa.
You should hear those college boys
Gee, they make an awful noise
When they sing their Eskimo tra la la.
They've got a leader, big cheer leader, oh what a guy!
He's got a frozen face just like an Eskimo Pie.
When he says, "Come on, let's go!"
Though it's forty-five below
Listen what those Eskimo all holler: read more »
