Reaching for Things

JournalBaby

P1040232We fed Thomas “solid” food yesterday.  He’s been reaching for our plates and food a lot lately, so we were stating to wonder if he wanted some.  Sure enough, he was all kicks and giggles when he realized that we were actually letting him put a spoon full of something in his mouth.  We’re not sure how muc  read more »

Thomas Eats Solid Food

Thomas' first experience with solid food.
Update (2/9): We gave him sweet potatoes. Check out his orange goatee! Update (2/16): Gave him squash. He liked it less than sweet potatoes, but still ate it all. Update (5/14): Added some videos. Thomas has decided he likes to grab our plates at dinner, so we thought he might enjoy some real food. We gave him some rice cereal, and he had a blast. We're not sure if he actually got any of it in his stomach, though.

Campout in January

Another big week for Thomas—he went on his first campout.  P1040174We went Friday night to a church-owned camp called Lehi Park.  We had a good time even though there were several bumps in the road.  First, we left later than we wanted to.  Second, we forgot we needed gas (don’t worry we turned around and got it be  read more »

Karl shaves his goatee.
Karl has been growing a goatee since mid-December. It makes him look older, we think. But it also has drawbacks. So Karl decided he was done with the wild man look and got a shave and a haricut. Here are the before and after shots.

The Little Ones Go Camping at Lehi Park
We took Thomas (and Wayne and Becky took Paela) camping for the first time this weekend. We all drove up to Lehi Park, a suprisingly isolted church-owned campground in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We were afraid it'd be rough, especially with how cold things were, but both Thomas and Paela slept much better than than usually do. Exclaimed Wayne, "We should go camping all the time!" Update (5/4/08): Added video.

Thomas’ cold was mostly gone by Tuesday. He only woke up for food twice at night, but he had a lingering cough. This lasted all week, so on Friday Angela decided to take him in to the doctor to have his cough checked. They said that it was bronchiolitis and gave us a weird contraption to orally dispense medicine to him via directed vapors. We’re betting that, when we were growing up, they probably would have just sent us home for this sort of thing and said to come back in a week if the cough was still there.  read more »

Thomas at 5 Months

In his new duck bathtub and lounging around the beanbag
Thomas turned 5 months old recently. We took some pictures of him in his new inflatable duck bathtub (he had grown too big--28 inches tall--for the infant one). As you can see from some of his expressions, we think he already has an idea that we're taking the bathtime pictures to embarrass him in front of dates when he gets older. Angela tried taking some portrait shots of Thomas on our beanbag. This was just supposed to be a test, but as you can see, some of them ended up looking pretty good. Update (5/4/08): Added video.

Here is my Grandmother's fabulous stuffing recipe.  After having this you will no longer want "Stove Top" Stuffing.  Funny thing is that is doesn't take much longer to make.  It isn't hard to make at all.  Hamburger buns are the best bread to use.  YUMMY!!!  read more »
