Probably like many of you, we spent a lot of last week staying up late watching the Olympics. Angela loves the gymnastics and swimming. She managed to get Karl hooked on them as well. So we stayed up later than we have in a long time, especially the night of the women’s all-around.
Monday we had a light celebration of Thomas’ birthday (since the big party was the day before). Angela took him swimming. We changed his carseat around to face the front. We sang Happy Birthday a lot.
He loves his birthday presents. Thank you to everyone who gave him something. His favorite present has been the blocks from his grandma Rees (he carries them around everywhere, much like his little balls) and the dump truck from his grandma Duncan (he loves putting things in the truck and eating the little driver). He’s also enjoyed having lots of new books. And Karl was very excited when he, without any prompting from us, picked up his little basketball and began dunking it repetitively.
Interestingly enough, Thomas got upset when he went swimming earlier this week. Angela was at a pool party, and as soon as he got in the water he started screaming uncontrollably. We’re not sure if he was hungry, cold, tired, or afraid of all the people.
Yesterday was haircut day. Angela learned how to give Thomas a haircut. She did a pretty good job, though it was very challenging. After a few minutes of still and motionless curiosity, he started wiggling and screaming and kicking. But she learned a lot and didn’t make very many mistakes. Karl didn’t let her do his hair yet, though. He went to a local salon. Saturday we also went to a Asian market for the first time in a year. We stocked up on all sorts on Asian foods and spices.
Today we went to a murder-mystery party for Wayne’s birthday. Lots of fun. A very excellent cake. And Angela did it.
