The week started on a somewhat down note. Angela came home from her bookclub Tuesday night to find Karl in bed with stomach problems, the chills, and a high fever. Luckily, the fever and chills went away in the middle of the night. The stomach ache lingered off and on for the rest of the week, though. He must be having sympathy pains for Angela (who actually was doing great for most of the week, until the last few evenings).
It was a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend for us. Angela made her stuffing, a pie, and other goodies, while Karl “hunted” down the turkey at the grocery store and cooked it. While we were doing that, we did a lot of cleaning and even put up Christmas lights (it’s easy when you only have a balcony to decorate). Wayne and Becky came over with other treats, and we had a nice family get together. That night we played games, watched football, and ate more leftovers.
Friday we drove to Angela’s grandparents for steak and some fun. Thomas was a little shy at first, but soon learned his way around the house. We were worried he would walk a hole into their new floor. Karl helped them do a few things on their computer, like get MSN messenger. And we chatted and ate M&Ms.
We tried to do a little shopping on Saturday. It’s too exhausting. We think we’ll end up doing almost all of our shopping online this year.
Earlier in the week, Karl had installed locking mechanisms on all of Thomas’ favorite kitchen and bathroom drawers. Imagine Thomas’ dismay the next day when he couldn’t get into the Tupperware. It was so sad watching him. We felt guilty, but it’s either that or walk on Tupperware for the rest of our lives.
Thomas has favorite books and even favorite pages in books. He’ll grab the book, open to his favorite page, and insist that we read it to him. One of these pages has the alphabet on it, and we usually sing the page to him. Randomly, he began spinning around whenever we sang this page to him. So now, he’ll bring the book to us with that page open, and we’ll spin around together. Although, he never seems to make it past P. And boy does he love spinning. He does it all the time.
Thomas slid down the slide by himself on Saturday. Karl even got it on video. And every time he hit bottom, he’d say “again.” He may think “again” means sliding, though.
Thomas knows where his eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, tongue, ears, hair, toes, knees, and fingers are. He surprised us on the fingers. We hadn’t taught him that, but when we asked him, he knew. He also pays attention in primary apparently. The song leader was trying to get everyone’s attention and so she asked everyone to touch their nose if they can hear her. Thomas touched his nose, without looking around at everybody else. Everyone around him started laughing (and Thomas did too). But Thomas really really hates our class now. He would scream every time Karl tried to take him in. So Angela had to teach our class alone today. She did a good job, apparently.
