Hibernation

Just in case you hadn’t noticed yet, there’s only six more days until Christmas. This has us very excited, of course. We’re even more excited now that Karl’s finals are out of the way. (Technically, he still has to turn in a brief before Christmas Eve, but he’s not so worried about that). His last few finals proved extraordinarily stressful. He had a multiple guess final on Thursday afternoon that was just way too hard for the courseload. Then immediately after he finished that test, he started a 24 hour take-home exam, which ended up being a 20 page essay. He spent 16 hours working on it, with a nice 8 hour nap in between.

After that, we had a fantastic weekend. We threw a Christmas party Friday night. We had 10 or so people over for food (it was an appetizer party), a white elephant exchange, and games (Outburst, Pit, Clue, and so on). Angela made two very excellent appetizers: spinach artichoke dip and pineapple salsa, while Karl threw Sprite into white grape juice (it was very hard). Afterwards, we watched “A Simple Twist of Fate” with Ruston and Tina. It was a pretty good, warm-and-fuzzy feeling type movie, based on the book Silas Marner.

Saturday afternoon we celebrated Angela’s mom’s birthday with the Duncan family. Good times as always. In the evening we had dinner and played games with our friend Dan and a girl he’s been dating. Then we joined Tina and Ruston to go see Narnia. It was a decent flick, but definitely not as good as all the hype made it out to be. It starts out good, but then when it tries to become epic, things start to feel a bit forced or too quick or something. Maybe the later books will get better.

Sunday we sang in our choir program (despite our coughs and running noses). Besides that, we stayed home and relaxed most of the day.

Angela, by the way, wasn’t as fully recovered last week as we had thought. She saw a doctor and stayed home on Tuesday (Karl got to spend the whole day taking care of her!). She got mostly better by Wednesday, but her cough is still lingering. Karl meanwhile started feeling it a little Thursday evening. He felt okay most of the weekend, but he’s had a pretty sore throat today. Good thing it’s hard to be in a grumpy mood when it’s Christmas time.

And today we climbed a mountain with ice picks. No, just kidding. Just wanted to make things sound more adventurous than they really are.

And today we climbed a mountain with ice picks. No, just kidding. Just wanted to make things sound more adventurous than they really are. But Karl did buy a lot of presents for Angela today, which is kind of like climbing a mountain with ice picks. And Angela hung out with her friends and exchanged presents this evening. Her friends gave her very generous gifts. And most importantly we watched Mr. Krueger’s Christmas for FHE. You go Mr. Krueger!
